WDF Europe Cup Ladies Singles 1984

On 26 and 27 October, the Dutch Darts Association together with the WDF organized the Europe Cup IV for men and women in the sports center Ockenburg in The Hague. For the first time in history a darts event of this stature was organized in the Netherlands. All the top players from twelve European countries were present. As in the men’s events, the ladies from England took all the top prizes in every event.

In the singles defending champion Sandra Gibb (Wales) lost 3-2 in the first round against Sweden’s Carina Sahlberg. The other top player from Wales, Ann Marie Davies also lost in the same round, 3-2 to the Belgian Catherine Neirinck.

Both English ladies, Linda Batten and Sharon Kemp reached the semi-finals. Linda beat Cathie Gibson from Scotland 3-2 and Sharon defeated Belgian Catherine Neirinck 3-0 in these semis.

The finale was therefore an all-English affair. That didn’t seem to help the standard. With legs of 26, 26, 27 and 26 darts Linda Batten won 3-1 and was crowned the Ladies Singles Champion.
