The sixth edition of the International Darts Open was held in the Sachsenarena in Riesa from 23 to 25 September. Due to the Corona virus, the tournament was postponed a few times, but at least it was played in what would be a thinned season with only four EuroTour tournaments. Joe Cullen in the end is the best, he beats Michael van Gerwen 8-5 in the final.
Cullen was seeded tenth for the tournament that had multiple players that cancelled their trip to Germany due to the Corona virus. That is why no less than 10 German players participated in this tournament. None of them would reach the quarter finals, by the way. Joe Cullen reaches the final with victories against Robert Marijanovic, Dave Chisnall, Ross Smith and Michael Smith.
His opponent in the final is Michael van Gerwen. He in turn beats Madars Razma, Andy Hamilton, James Wade and Mensur Suljovic, often with a lot of difficulties. It is the second time that both men face each other in the final of a EuroTour tournament. The result is the same as in Mannheim in 2019. Joe Cullen wins and does so 8-5.
It is the second EuroTour title for Cullen, after the European Darts Matchplay in Mannheim a year earlier. For the first time since 2012, Michael van Gerwen remains empty-handed in 2020 when it comes to EuroTour titles.
